Starring the late Dick Van Dyke in one of his most charming roles (alongside Burt the chimney sweep in Mary Poppins), the film also stars Sally Ann Howes, Lionel Jeffries, Gert Frobe (The bond film Goldfinger) and Benny Hill (before his silly-bawdy TV show).
The 1968 movie is based on the children’s book Chitty Chitty Bang Bang: The Magical Car by Ian Fleming - yes the creator of 007 - and the film tells the story of an eccentric inventor whose curious creations just can't support his family of two children and their grandfather. Then, he comes up with a quite amazing car that flies, and a small European nation tries to steal it and an adventure begins.
The film features songs by the wonderful Sherman Brothers, Richard and Robert, who gave us so many Disney classics. Among the numbers are the irresistible title track and "Truly Scrumptious" and "Toot Sweet"
